Kathmandu City

The capital of Nepal is an exhilarating and fascinating city of color and one of the most picturesque capitals in the world. Nestled in a large valley which according to legend was a huge lake, the city has a variety of attraction to offer that include a heady array of exquisite medieval monuments, museums, temples and statues. Kathmandu Valley comprises the three ancient cities of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur, which were once independent states ruled by the Malla kings from the 12th to the 18th centuries. The three cities house seven UNESCOWorld Heritage shrines which are together listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square in the heart of old Kathmandu city in Basantapur never fails to impress first time visitors with its intricate wood carvings and rich history. Surrounded by concrete buildings, the complex is an oasis in a fast developing, chaotic modern city. Once the residence of Nepal's Royal family, all coronation ceremonies were held here. The palace is an amalgamation of eastern and western architecture with additions by Rana and Shah Rulers over the centuries. An unbelievable 50 temples lie withinthe vicinity including the temple of the titular deity, Taleju Bhawani. The Durbar is divided into two courtyards, the outer Kasthamandap, Kumari Ghar, and Shiva-Parvati Temple, and the inner section consisting of Hanuman Dhoka and the main palace. Some floors have been converted to museums dedicated to three generations of Shah Kings.

Swayambhunath

Swayambhu means self-arisen. This particular Stupa complex was built, according to different traditions, either around a small crystal Stupa that arose spontaneously on top of this hill, or a lotus flower, which naturally radiated light, at the time of the Buddha Shikhin. The Swayambhunath Hill which, according to Trulshik Rinpoche, has been blessed by thousands of Buddhas and will be blessed by all the Buddhas of this kalpa, is often considered the most sacred spot in the whole of theKathmandu Valley. According to the Seventh Dalai Lama, this very Stupa is the source of all the happiness in the world.

Pashupatinath

Pashupatinath, or Pashupati, is a Hindu temple on the banks of the Bagmati River in Deopatan, a village 3 km northwest of Kathmandu. It is dedicated to a manifestation of Shiva called Pashupati (Lord of Animals). It attracts thousands of pilgrims each year and has become well known far beyond the Kathmandu Valley. The temple is barred to non- Hindus, but a good view of the temple can be had from the opposite bank of the river Pashupati Temple stands in the center of the town of Deopatan, in the middle ofan open courtyard. It is a square, two-tiered pagoda temple built on a single-tier plinth, and it stands 23.6 meters above the ground. Richly ornamented gilt and silver-plated doors are on all sides.

Boudhanath Stupa

Boudhanath Stupa (or Bodnath Stupa) is the largest stupa in Nepal and the holiest Tibetan Buddhist temple outside Tibet. It is the center of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu and rich in Buddhist symbolism. The stupa is located in the town of Boudha, on the eastern outskirts of Kathmandu. According to legend, Boudhanath Stupa was built during the 5th century AD, by an old poultry woman who asked the king for land to construct a shrine to the Buddha. From above, Bodnath Stupa looks like agiant mandala, or diagram of the Buddhist cosmos. And as in all Tibetan mandalas, four of the Dhyani Buddhas mark the cardinal points, with the fifth, Vairocana, enshrined in the center. The five Buddhas also personify the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether), which are represented in the stupa's architecture.

Pokhara

Pokhara is Nepal's number one adventure and Leisure City, a trekking gateway to theAnnapurna's with plenty of entertainment for individual travelers as well as families with kids. Pokhara will overwhelm you with one of the greatest photo spots in the world. While you walk along the shores of the Fewa Lake you will besurrounded by a panoramic view over the Himalayan peaks of the Annapurna Massif that reflect in this lake. A beautiful color combination that is created by the wooden boats and Para gliders that are sailing, flying and rowing over the lake is probably going to be one of the highlights of your travel experience in Nepal. Pokhara has also developed as an adventure destination in the last decade, offering everything from ultra light flying to paragliding and from skydiving and zip lining to bungee jumping.

Fewa Lake

Fewa Lake in Pokhara is the second largest lake in Nepal. It covers an area of about 4.43 sq. km and has an average depth of around 8.6 m. The lake is a major attraction to those who are drawn to water sports or families who simply love absorbing the beautiful scenery. The warm water of the lake is inviting and ideal for a trip on a little wooden boat. The Barahi temple 2 storied Hindu temple on the lush island ofFewa lake. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga, who protects the gods from demons. Durga takes in the form of a boar called Barahi to pierce her evil enemies with her pointed tusks.

Sarangkot

Lying within 45-minute drive from Pokhara city at a distance of just 6 kilometers, the sight of sunrise from Sarangkot is the moment of supreme beauty leading you inwards into the mystery of creation. A perennial attraction for everybody who visits Pokhara, missing Sarangkot sunrise scenery is to miss a tremendous experience of your life. An immense expanse of the beautiful land including all of Pokhara, its lakeside, the entire Fewa Lake and a panorama of verdant mountains fill up the canvass in front of your eyes, with a long stretch of the central Himalaya at the horizon. The massive peaks like Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Ganesh, Manaslu and Annapurna are seen towering towards the sky.

Devis Fall

Also known as Patale Chhango, this waterfall marks the point where the Pardi Khola stream vanishes underground. When the stream is at full bore after monsoon rains, the sound of the water plunging over the falls is deafening. According to one of the many local legends, the name is a corruption of David’s fall, a reference to a Swiss visitor who tumbled into the sinkhole and drowned, taking his girlfriend with him. The falls are about 2km southwest of the airport on the road to Butwal, just before the Tashi Ling Tibetan camp.

Bindabasini Temple

Bindabasini temple or Bindhyabasini Mandir is of great religious importance to Hindus living in the Pokhara region. It is a vital hub of religious fervor. The temple itself is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Durga, who is Pokhara's chosen guardian deity. Durga, also known as Shakti or Kali has numerous manifestations and at the Bindabasini temple she is seen as Bhagwati, a blood-thirsty aspect of the goddess. Durga appears in the form of a Saligram.A Saligram, according to Hindu mythology is anpropitious stone. It is said that the temple was created after the goddess ordered king Khadag Bum Malla to set up a statue here. Since its establishment, Bhagwati has been an object of worship.

Seti George

Seti River is originated from the beautiful mountain the Machhapuchre Himal. A natural wonder, the Seti Gandaki goes underground, vanishing from sight in many places along its route through the city. The water is milky white and cool. The roaring Seti River passes right through Pokhara, but you won’t see it unless you go looking. The river has carved a deep, narrow chasm through the middle of town, turning the water milky white in the process. The best place tocatch a glimpse of the Seti River is the park just north of Old Pokhara near the Gurkha Museum. Its width is hardly 2 meters and the depth is more than 20 meters.

Gupteshwor Mahadev

Located in the south-east at Chhorepatan, Pokhara, the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave is considered 599 years old. The long flights of stairs wind down to the temple of Lord Shiva where the lord balanced on a raised platform fenced by iron bars can be seen. The cave is musty and damp but a string of electric light bulbs emits enough light to see the stairs clearly. Most of the time one needs to bend down until one has passed through the 50 meters long tunnel. Once one has passed through the tunnel, there is a huge open cavern with enormous rocks, no trace of soil at all, only little pebbles scattered everywhere. On the right hand side there is a deep gorge. After a few yards of scrambling through the darkness, there is a crystal clear pond and from here one can see the awe-inspiring Patale Chhango (Devi’s falls) falling right from the top
